The world’s fastest Linux supercomputer will be built by IBM for a Japanese research organisation. This computer will primarily use the just launched AMD Opteron 64-bit processor to deliver over 10 trillion calculations per second. The news at IDG. The bottomline is that Japan will now be home to two of the top three supercomputers in the world.

The article also has a word or two about the new Cray supercomputer also based on the AMD Opteron processor which will displace the Japanese machine by delivering a a peak performance of around 40 trillion calculations per second.
