Yahoo! News | Spreadsheets: 25 Years in a Cell

Has the ubiquitous use of spreadsheets made people dumb? When uncertainity is the fact of life, spreadsheets talk only in objective terms. Probability pays a big role in decisions and their impact in real life but they have no room to play in the world of spreadsheet software.
This article opens up a rather interesting perspective into spreadsheets and their impact on decision-making.

Last weekend I visited the just opened Apple Store at The Forum mall, Bangalore. This is probably India’s first Apple Store.
This place is a must visit for anyone who loves anything about computers. The Powerbook G4 and the G5 on display were really cool though really expensive. I chatted up with the floor manager talking especially of the IBM technology behind the new Apple computers. They sell Apple software, Airport and iPods too. Tried my hand the new Mac OS X- very slick and the Unix/BSD roots are quite apparent. All in all a great experience.

Nature | Insect deaths add to extinction fears

British survey hints that species are crashing worldwide. This is biggest evidence so far of species extinction at a massive scale. This is the data from a comparatively less polluted / more enviornmentally concerned country, wonder what are the figures for India, China or other developing nations. I have recently covered how all the 4 known vulture species in India have becom extinct for all practical purposes.

I live in Bangalore- called the Garden City of India, but the gardens and green cover are fast disappearing and are being replaced by smog and heat. I can only describe my childhood when I could see myraid types of butterflies, and millions of fireflies in the night today there is nothing. This city was once known for its moderate climate, houses didnt even have fitments for ceiling fans. Nowadays, even in March the temperature is way beyond 35C. SAVE NATURE BEFORE IT BITES BACK !
